We tried this out on a large scale at the De La Warr Pavilion show. The audience could make the line bulge and become pregnant with spiders eggs, which burst forth after a while.
It was a forward projection over 4m with people creating silhouettes which were picked up by a webcam. The webcam was mainly interested in the silhouette's horizontal position (not height) so even children would set the line off if they reached up.
The interaction was our most intuitive yet, because the audience could see that their shadow was affecting the line instantly. People spent a long time playing with the undulating line. In fact the interaction was so successful that we will probably split Growth Line into two separate pieces: the bulging line and the spider eggs, which although fairly repugnant were dwarfed at this scale.
