Digital Art at Turner Contemporary

// Feb 2019 //

Great response to our cosmic PCs and projections at the Clore Learning Studios over the Half term week.

We had fantastic feedback from the dropin and workshop participants, the Turner staff and the Late night public. People were amazed by the transformation of the space and lapped up the chance to engage in digital art making. We had many request to do more workshops in the future. The dropins were packed and the workshops were sold out and the kids produced some fascinating and diverse pieces all inspired by the bubble-like parallel universes of the latest Spiderman film! Hundreds of people enjoyed the interactives and coding activities we laid on as part of the Late Night event which was an exciting night. Thanks to Molly and the Turner Contemporary staff for allowing us to share our digital visions.

Turner Contemporary Late Animats + Squidlets

Turner Contemporary Late Multiple + Workshop results

This half term we set up all sorts of digital activities at Turner Contemporary in response to the art show by Katie Paterson. We haven’t done something at TC for a while and we’re excited about showcasing the creative potentials of digital art.

The upstairs learning studio will be filled with large scale interactive projections including algorithmic Planets, Nebulae and alien Animats. Visitors will learn how to be creative with computers with our creative coding worksheets. The sessions are from 1-4pm on Wednesday and Thursday and are suitable for all ages including families and are free to Margate residents. There will be interactive touchscreen drawing for the youngsters and a line version of our popular Multiple program. Everyone can become a space age Squidlet and the whole event will be looked over by the living fossil Nautilus.

On Friday there will be one hour formal workshops for 8-12 year olds who will learn how to program basic graphics, animations, meteors and space junk in the Processing language. You can book places on these workshops on EventBrite.

Finally to finish off on the Friday night we’ll be presenting the results of the workshops and allowing adults to play as part of Late Night Live : ‘a place that only exists in moonlight’

This unique late is programmed by University of Creative Arts Student Union celebrating the work of Katie Paterson & JMW Turner at Turner Contemporary.
