Children’s Book Festival at Dreamland

// Feb 2019 //

We’ll be presenting Underwater City which we made with Ramsgate Arts Primary School as part of our Dreamland residency last year at this new festival.

Last year we worked with all 220 kids at Ramsgate Arts Primary School to build an Underwater City. We gave different tasks to different age groups and some of the younger kids (5-7 year olds) worked on making the buildings.  Other kids made sprites, sea-life dances, animating creatures and the oldest kids (8-10 year olds) were taught basic creative coding to design the background animating water world. You can see the individual parts and the entire video this weekend.

Dreamland is hosting its first ever Children’s Book Festival this February half term. The action-packed line up includes a very special appearance from The Gruffalo, plus screenings of film adaptations of Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler classics by Magic Light Pictures, including Room On The Broom, Stick Man, The Highway Rat, The Gruffalo and their highly-anticipated latest release Zog!

Our work will be projected throughout the event on the Hall by the Sea main stage.

Here’s a documentary by Tom Schrapnel about this project.
